Two units and a selection of supplementary materials are currently available for this module, developed by Julie Clayton, HIV/AIDS co-ordinator for
the Science and Development Network, with contributions from
TV Padma and Joe Thomas.
Unit overview: This unit aims to give participants the confidence and
skills to communicate more effectively about HIV/AIDS research and other
HIV/AIDS issues, through the use of internet-based resources, practical
exercises, role play and discussion.
Duration: If all the exercises are included in full this is (at least) a
full-day session.
Target audience: Journalists, editors and information officers interested in
enhancing media coverage of HIV/AIDS research and other HIV/AIDS topics and
issues.
Prerequisite skills: Basic journalism and/or public communication
experience; good computer and Internet searching skills.

Unit overview: This unit provides guidance on finding and evaluating
the wide variety of HIV/AIDS information and resources available on the
internet.
Duration: 4-5 hours, depending on exercises.
Target audience: The unit is intended to be useful to a general audience
interested in HIV/AIDS research, treatment and care, including lay people,
community workers, health care workers, scientists, journalists and other
communicators.
Prerequisite skills: Keyboard and mouse skills, some familiarity with
internet browsing and the use of search engines.

If learners are not already familiar with using mailing lists, use
them in conjunction with the MMTK
Introduction to mailing lists unit.
These materials are intended for use with all reporting on
HIV/AIDS units.
